How to Play Half-Life in Your Browser
- 1Press Play. On the first screen keep Memory size at 150 (raise it if the game runs out of memory) and continue.
- 2Choose a package from the server (Half-Life EN, Opposing Force EN, or Russian versions) or select your own ZIP.
- 3Optionally enable the IndexedDB cache so the package does not download again next time.
- 4Press “Launch Xash3D!” and wait for the download, then click into the game.

- The project (pixelsuft/hl) was built in June 2021 and has not been updated since, so expect rough edges.
Half-Life Browser Alternatives
For a newer engine build, WebXash (listed as Counter-Strike 1.6 on this site) runs Half-Life and its expansions too, but only with your own game files from Steam. Neither project is made by Valve.
Half-Life Browser FAQ
Do I need to own Half-Life to play it in the browser?
This port can download its own Half-Life package from its server, so it starts without your files. You can also load a ZIP of your own copy.
Is the Half-Life browser port made by Valve?
No. It is a community port of the open-source Xash3D engine, which is compatible with Half-Life’s GoldSrc content.
Can I play Opposing Force in the browser?
Yes, there is an Opposing Force package, but it runs on an older engine version where NPCs do not spawn.
